SHANNON MURDOCK

C'est moi!

About Me

I'm Shannon Murdock, born and raised in Louisiana, where I graduated high school and attended Northwestern State University of Louisiana, majoring in Theatre for two years. After leaving college, I ventured into the casino industry as a dealer/croupier, which took me from Louisiana to Tennessee, and eventually to Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands, dealing baccarat, roulette, and blackjack in a small startup casino.

In Austin, TX, I transitioned into the tech industry, working as a Business Systems Analyst at Dell Computers for 15 years. This role immersed me in Information Technology, particularly in global enterprise projects focused on modernizing Dell's order management and accounts receivables systems using the Oracle eBusiness Suite. I was responsible for eliciting and analyzing business requirements and collaborating with stakeholders and developers across continents, which honed my skills in cross-functional team leadership and agile methodologies.

During my tenure at Dell, I became a Certified Scrum Master, facilitating the adoption of Agile Software Development. Later, as a Business Analyst at the City of Tacoma, I earned certification as a Certified Scrum Product Owner in 2021. My work led to significant cost savings and efficient project delivery, affirming my analytical and leadership capabilities.

Although my career has been rewarding, it has remained embarrassingly non-technical due to a lack of training or education in programming languages. I taught myself to code in HTML 5 and CSS 3, but aside from a few simple websites I have built, that is the extent of my current programming knowledge. I aim to enhance my technical expertise. I am pursuing a Software Development certificate at Seattle Central College to deepen my understanding of coding languages and to transition into higher paying roles such as Technical Product Manager. I plan to leverage SCC's robust curriculum, faculty expertise, and networking opportunities to refine my skills and broaden my career prospects.

By focusing on acquiring hands-on technical skills and staying abreast of industry trends, I am confident that my education at SCC will empower me to secure a fulfilling role in the competitive tech landscape, ultimately achieving my goal of a challenging and rewarding career with a comfortable salary.
